There's an old addage that says, where your attention goes, your energy flows.
When my car battery was slowing down, I observed how my focus shifted. I went from not worrying about something to focusing only on that. This happens often in my practice as well. Once sometime hurts a part of themselves, it becomes their entire focus.
I began to worry about the possibility of my car not starting. I would leave the house earlier in case it wouldn’t start. I would park in different places so I didn’t block anyone and to make it easier for others to help. I would worry about where I was going in case the car wouldn’t start. This went on until I changed my battery.
Once I changed the batter, all these worries disappeared and I returned to my normal behaviours. I also noticed how much extra energy it took to do all this worrying….and this was only over 2 days!
The same thing happens when we’re in pain. Let’s take chronic, long-term low back pain for example.

Eventually, you stop doing the activities that bring you joy. There are times when our bodies do need a break and we do need to stop everything but this is usually for short term.
If the pain lasts long enough, we soon develop behaviours that aren’t like us. People close to us may start to notice that we are the way we used to be. This could lead to depression.
