Courage is the ability to do something that you fear. It’s strength in the face of pain or grief. It also sucks. Courage has been touted as something positive, something we want to strive to achieve. In the moment though, courage sucks. It’s not fun to stand up to your fears. It’s terrifying. Who wants to speak in front of a crowd when they are scared of public speaking? Growth isn’t fun! So why do it? Why be courageous? Because it’s worth it. After we stand our stand, say what we have to say, it’s hard in the moment but then something special happens. You face your fear over again and again and then one day, it doesn’t suck so much anymore. You are happy to finally speak your voice and perhaps one day, you may even enjoy it. Don’t be illusioned that courage is easy. It’s not. It takes everything you’ve got. Every ounce of you, physically, emotionally, mentally and even spiritually. You could be facing the battle of your life! What happens if you chose to run away instead? That too is a choice. You don’t get the opportunity to learn and grow this the situation. If you don’t learn, it’ll keep coming back until you do. You also shrink your world a little. Imagine if the first time you took a step and fell down, you gave up and didn’t take the next step, you’d never learn to walk. What if you didn’t speak up when you knew your should? You would not be able to take a stand for yourself, for others or share your special and unique message with the world. Courage sucks….but it’s worth it. Need more courage in your life?
