We all have an expiry date.  While we may not know when our day will come, there are certain factors that can speed up the date for our body.  Some aspects are in our control and others are not. We will look at 5 things that we are in control of.

  • Proper movement
    • Our bodies were meant to be active and to move.  We used to have to chase our meals or spend time harvesting and growing our vegetables.  Now, we sit in a car or on the bus, sit all day at work and sit in front of the T.V. Movement helps the cells and fluids in our body to move and cycle around.  Spend more time moving your body to help keep you feeling young and strong.
  • Nutrition
    • You are what you eat.  The foods that you eat and drink are broken down by your body and used to make your cells.  If you are eating fast food every day, your body will be made of that. If you are eating salads every day, your body will be made of salad.  Which do you think would heal and regenerate better?
  • Gratitude
    • Have an attitude of gratitude.  Emotions and thoughts tell your body how to react physically.  If you are having emotions of anger or sadness, certain hormones will be released into your body, versus love and gratitude which would set off different hormonal cascades.  All the cells of your body will be bathe in the hormones that are released and your body will respond correspondingly. Want to live longer? Start a gratitude journal and write down each day 5 things that you are grateful for.
  • Stress
    • Whether it be physical, emotional or mental, stress is one of the biggest factors in aging.  Now, there won’t really be a time in your life where you have zero stress, however, how you respond to your stress will make a difference in your healing.  Eustress is a type of stress that has positive benefits for a person. One example would be lifting weights when you exercise. You place your body under stress but done repeatedly, you build muscle which is good for your body.  Eustress is a type of stress which leads to positive growth.
  • Community
    • We were meant to live in community and not isolate ourselves.  People who tend to live longer; have friends, family and a sense of belonging to a community.
