There are many ways to get things done. Sometimes, we require more motivation than others.
Motivation can take on many forms. Motivation can come from internal factors where you make the decision to do something. It can also come from outside sources, for instance, having a deadline imposed upon you. When the source comes from outside, it can be inspiring or manipulating and fearful. I noticed that when I ask my children to do something and they don’t, that I try to manipulate them into doing it. They usually do as they are told, but neither of us are enjoying ourselves. It usually takes the form of “If you don’t do <insert blank> than….Mommy will take away something, or you won’t get to watch Paw Patrol, etc. While this may be a useful technique, I don’t want to threaten my children into doing what I want. Also, one day, it won’t work anymore and I would not have developed the skills to create action. The other consideration is, what will my children learn from this? What if they correlate taking action with having something taken away from then? There's got to be another way! You can inspire others to take action! Have you ever heard a moving speech that inspired you to donate to a cause? Have you seen someone else do something that has caused to you change? For my kids, one thing they like is to do activities with me. So, if I say, let’s clean this up together, they will have fun. If I make a game of it, they will take even quicker action. For example, who can pick up the most toys? Find ways to motivate or inspire yourself into making changes and taking actions. See the difference it makes! Need some help? Give our office a call.
