When we try to remain the same even when it’s not appropriate, this creates tension in our body. The tension builds and builds and then either drives us towards change or to pain, dysfunction and eventually, disease. Dr. Donald Epstein says that disease happens when we did not make the change in our life that we were supposed to. This could be a change in diet and exercise habits, it could mean speaking up, getting out of a bad relationship, etc. Life is supposed to hurt and be painful if you are not doing what you are supposed to be doing. If you are not joyful, if you’re not following your passions and your purpose, it is supposed to hurt. Questions to ask yourself: In what areas of my health do I currently feel stuck? In which areas of my relationships am I feeling stuck? Treatment without changing If we treat the disease and don’t change our lives, we simply try to restore ourselves to the way we used to be. Remember, our old selves is what got us to the pain in the first place! Instead, we need to change who we are being and upgrade ourselves for the future. Rather than trying to be who we were in the past, we evolve into the person the future requires us to be. Need some help evolving into the person that your future requires you to be?
