The Will to Go On

Last night, my newborn baby was having an unusually hard time falling asleep.  After trying every trick I knew and then some, I was at my wit’s end with the crying.  I found myself frustrated, tired and wanting to run away. Just when I had reached my breaking point, the little angel fell asleep.

What lessons did I learn?
  • This too shall pass.  Even the toughest moments will eventually pass.  Feel and experience your emotions and let them move through you.
  • It’s the universe’s way of training us for more.  When I had only 1 child, I thought it was tough and how could I handle more.  Now, I have 2 and dealing with 1 at a time is easy.
  • We can go on for longer than we think we can.  Once you break through the limits that your mind has set on you, you’ll find out that there’s more in you.
  • Each time we stretch and grow our comfort zone, we expand our consciousness and our world changes.   You won’t know how far you can go until you go to your edge. Within our comfort zone, things are easy and we’re used to it.  Growth comes at the end of our comfort zone. It’s like building muscles when you work out. It’s not on the first couple reps (unless you are doing for a 1 rep max) that the muscles are built.  It’s when you get to your end and lift once more that the muscles get bigger.
  • Meditation helps!  It’s easy to be in a meditative state when no one is around and you’re in a peaceful environment.  That training is so that when we are in a moment of difficulty, we can try to remain calm.
  • Ask for help.  When you are in the thick of things, it’s hard to get a bigger picture of what is going on.  I had texted a friend and she said, I assume that you’ve already adjusted her? Opps….no I hadn’t.  That should have been one of the first things I tried. Good thing I asked for help.
  • Compassion for myself and for my daughter.  I felt bad for my daughter because there was nothing that I could do to make her feel better.  I could only hold her and be present for her until it passed (after of course making sure she was changed, well fed, and burped).  I learned to give myself a break as well. I can’t do it all myself nor should I be expected to.

When was the last time you were tested? How did you respond? Write your experience below.

Love that you got so much from that experience! Love that you can find the time to think and write even with two children! Congrats on your new Angel!

As I’m reading this, ‘When It Don’t Come Easy’ by Patty Griffith is playing haphazardly on Spotify. All perfect as I’m feeling overwhelmed by self-employed single motherhood, the time and cost associated with my daughter’s upcoming competitive dance season, my son’s last year at home and an ache to have time for my ‘own’ life, stuff or goals.
