We will all have a future version of ourselves. No moment is ever repeated and time continues to move on. The question is, will your future you be of your own creation or a conditioned version of yourself?
The current version of ourselves is the conditioned self. The conditioned self comes from our past lived experiences. We have practiced thoughts, emotions, reactions and coping mechanisms unconscious since childhood.
As children, we are deeply influenced by those close to us, our parents, teachers, family, etc. We watch and unconsciously mimic their responses. We then take those actions, emotions, etc. add in our own experiences and then call it our self. If we never examine them, it becomes hard to separate our true self from our conditioned self.
As humans, we have the ability to become conscious to this version of ourselves and have the power to create a new version that is more in alignment with who we really are.
The first step is always to become aware of the present self by witnessing ourselves without judgement.
During this process, it is important to show yourself acceptance and compassion. We also need to understand that our behaviour and reactions were created as a way to protect ourselves from pain.
Our minds and bodies are more powerful than we've been told. To create your future self, you need to take responsibility of who you are.
With repetition and practice, you will create new pathways in your brain and nervous system and thus, new responses in your body.
